About the Illustrator
Jeff Rauf, Motor City native and founder of Rauf Technical Art, brings a unique blend of artistic precision, technical fluency, and industry experience to patent illustration. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Jeff began his professional career learning the ‘old-school’ method of creating complex illustrations from scratch. A drawing board covered in blue prints, mylar, french curves and triangles. This skill caught the eye of Volvo Automated Systems landing him a job producing concept illustrations and marketing visuals for their advanced engineering and sales teams.
He then transitioned to the advertising world, where he spent years creating ‘polished’ technical art for Detroit’s finest ad agencies, whose clients included the ‘Big Three’, Subaru, Toyota, Honda, B.F.Goodrich, Michelin, AT&T, Budweiser, Johnson Controls, just to name a few.
Having gained a deep exposure to a wide range of mechanical and technological innovation, his next chapter took him to Colvin Design Company, where he honed his expertise in patent illustration under the mentorship of seasoned inventor and skilled patent illustrator, David Colvin. It was Dave who instructed him in the formal rules, procedural standards, and drawing requirements for PTO compliant drawings.
